This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
