President Trump Invites Families of Shot Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey told the crowd at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
