Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
