One of the original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated how parent company Unilever stopped the introduction of a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new product as part of a personal collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement deepens the ongoing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its coloration, which closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

The new dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed that he plans to develop additional frozen dessert varieties that address issues that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, following decades with the organization, mentioning concerns that the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
