Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
